Pablo Planet Arrocha
Director of History and Cultural Theory
Pablo Planet Arrocha, (1951), was born in La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain and was raised and educated in Barcelona, Spain. He obtained his Industrial Draftsman degree from the Master School of Valencia in 1968. He obtained a BS in Engineering in 1972 from the University of Barcelona and later a BA and MA in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia’s School of Architecture in Barcelona in 1977. In 1985, he relocated to San Juan, Puerto Rico where he obtained a M.A. in History of Puerto Rico (Summa Cum Laude) (1993) from the Center for Advanced Studies of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. He became a Doctoral candidate in American history from the University Of Valladolid, Spain and later a Ph.D. in History of Architecture (2000) with a thesis on The Urban Revitalization of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico (1952-1993) where he was unanimously voted Cum Laude and nominated for National Prize). Within his extensive academic work, he has also completed partial studies in Education at Caribbean University of Puerto Rico, graduate courses in Management from The University of Phoenix, undergraduate courses in Psychology from the University of Turabo in Puerto Rico and English at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona.
Academic experience:
Coordinator and Professor, Department of History, Theory and Culture of the School of Architecture of the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico (2009-2010)
Professor of History courses in History of Architecture, Department of Doctoral History of the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico.
Member of the Thesis Committee, Doctorate in Education at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico.
Designed and professor of the first MA in History of Art of Puerto Rico at Caribbean University in Puerto Rico (2002-2010)
Coordinator of Academic Affairs (2002-2004)
Representative of the Graduate School faculty of the Agenda Committee of the Academic Senate (2002-2004)
Turabo University, Puerto Rico, Director of Thesis in the Master of Environmental Sciences and professor for twelve years.
Thesis Director for History, Art History and Coordinator of the same and designed the architectural draftsman course
American University, Puerto Rico, designed and taught the second Masters in History of Art of Puerto Rico
University of Puerto Rico (2003-2005) taught art history at the Department of Fine Arts. Universidad del Este Puerto Rico (2001-2010) Professor of Art History.
Professional Architecture and Civil Engineering experience:
Worked from (1992-1997) in the Office of Communal Planning and Development on projects and direction of the urban revitalization of the city of Caguas, the nomination of the historical area of Caguas, restoration projects, among others.
Worked as an architect in Barcelona, Valencia, (Spain), in Venezuela and Puerto Rico and the Department of Civil Engineering at the Hydro Electric of Catalonia, Barcelona at the central Susqueda Posa, and Vandellos Nuclear Power Plant ASCO (Barcelona).
Has lectured at the Inter-American University and Caribbean University in 2007, on architecture and urbanism; Member of the Middle State of Commission on Higher Education (2009). Member of IRB, area of scientific research among others.
